The Fraternal Order of Eagles, a non-profit,
member driven organization, is the sole reason we can afford to play
cribbage! Due to Washington State Gambling laws, a tiny social club
such as ours must either find a sponsor, or pay thousands of dollars each
year for a gambling license.
The Eagles of Port Angeles have generously offered
their smoke-free facility, free-of-charge, as well as protect us under their
gambling license, so that we cribbage players can compete for cash prizes
every week.
Jim & Lisa Duff, the directors of PA Peggers, have enjoyed membership
for many years.
Last year there was a significant change to Washington State law
that makes it virtually impossible for private organizations such as the
Eagles to host non-members, or have existing members sponsor visitors more
than one time.
For that reason, yes, as a PA Pegger, we all must also join the Eagles.
Please don't immediately dismiss a future with cribbage, and know
that the Eagles and Eagles Auxiliary are both excellent organizations!
With Eagles all around the country, wherever you go, you can be assured as a
member that you will be welcomed wherever other Eagles exist.
